TENNESSEE BAPTIST FOUNDATION ESTABLISHES SCHOLARSHIP HONORING HYRAN AND JOYCE BAREFOOT

JACKSON, July 31-- Trustees of the Tennessee Baptist Foundation recently established a scholarship in honor of Union University Chancellor Hyran Barefoot and his wife, Joyce.

The scholarship was established to recognize the contributions of Dr. and Mrs. Barefoot during his 37-year career at Union, where he served 10 years as president before retiring May 31.

"The trustees chose to honor Dr. and Mrs. Barefoot for their dedicated service not only to Union University, but to Tennessee Baptist life as a whole," said W.L. "Bo" Childs, Jr., president of the foundation.

The Dr. Hyran and Joyce Barefoot Scholarship was established with a $10,000 contribution from the Tennessee Baptist Foundation Ministry Fund. Income generated by the scholarship fund will provide financial assistance for a worthy Union University student. The scholarship will be presented as part of Union's annual Awards Day ceremony.

The fund remains open, and individuals wishing to contribute to the scholarship may contact the Tennessee Baptist Foundation at (901) 371-2029.
