UNION UNIVERSITY PLAYERS TO PRESENT "AN ORDER OF FRY'S" NOV. 14-19

JACKSON, October 25-- The Union University Players will present "An Order of Fry's," two one-act plays by Christopher Fry, Nov. 14-19 in the University's W.D. Powell Theater. Fry, a celebrated British playwright, essayist and translator, wrote the screenplays for some of the world's most famous films, including "Ben Hur," "Barrabbas," and "The Bible."

The Union Players will perform two of Fry's shorter works, "A Phoenix Too Frequent" and "Thor, With Angels."

" ‘A Phoenix Too Frequent' is a symbolic Christian comedy that celebrates the triumph of the ‘Life Force' over the instincts of self-destruction," David Burke, director of the Union players, said. "In this game of passion a young soldier and a beautiful widow find hope, life, and each other in the tomb of her dead husband."

Burke describes "Thor, With Angels" as "a lyrical drama that is designed to ridicule misplaced fanaticism. This play fictitiously explores a real life event in British history-- the re-introduction of Christianity by Pope Gregory I via Augustine in 596 A.D."

All performances begin at 8 p.m., with the exception of a 2:30 p.m. matinee Sunday, November 17. Admission to the opening night performance includes an opening night gala and reception with the play's cast and crew.

Tickets to the performances are $3 for students, $6 general admission, and an additional dollar guarantees exclusive reserved seating. For ticket information or reservations, call the Union University box office at (901) 661-5105 or (901) 661-5287.
