JACKSON, December 4-- George Fischoff, a Tony-Award nominated composer/pianist acclaimed for his work in off-Broadway musicals, will perform his one-man show, "Shepherd!," Monday, Dec. 9, at Union University. The concert begins at 8 a.m. in Union's G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel.
Fresh from a six-month off-Broadway run in New York, the biblical musical explores the life of David, the second king of Israel. One of the longest-running one-man shows in theatrical history, "Shepherd!" now tours the country and has received rave reviews from Clive Barnes of The New York Post and publications including New York Law Journal, Forward magazine, Jewish Press, and Jewish Week.
Fischoff's first biblical musical, "Promised Land," a narrative of the life of Moses, toured for three years and recently completed an eight-month off-Broadway run. He also composed music for the Tony-nominated "Georgy," the family musical "The Prince and the Pauper," and James Michener's "Savonara," which has toured nationally.
For his series of keyboard instrumental recordings in the 70's and 80's, Fischoff received three ASCAP national airplay awards and was twice named as one of Billboard Magazine's top 50 Adult Contemporary Recording Artists of the Year.
The concert, which is sponsored by Union University's Lyceum committee, is free and open to the public.
