12 ELECTED TO UNION UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

JACKSON, December 16-- Messengers to the 122nd annual session of the Tennessee Baptist Convention recently elected 12 new members to Union University's board of trustees. The 50-member board acts as a governing body for Union, working with the president's cabinet to make decisions regarding the University's future and day-to-day operations.

"Strong institutions need effective trustee leadership," Union President David S. Dockery said. "We are grateful that these individuals have been elected to Union's board of trustees. I know each will make valuable contributions to help shape and strengthen our University."

Newly-elected trustees include:

Jim Austin, manager of Clayton Homes in LaVergne. Austin, a 1965 Union graduate, has 12 years of prior service on the University's board of trustees. He is a member of First Baptist Church, Smyrna.

Ann Boston, a 1956 Union graduate and eligibility II counselor with the Tennessee Department of Human Services. She is a member of First Baptist Church, Dyersburg.

Mary Burrow, a 1937 Union graduate and retired social worker for the State of Tennessee. She is a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Jackson.

Elzie Danley, superintendent of the Jackson-Madison County School System. Danley, a former chairman of Union's board of trustees, has six years of prior service to the board. He is interim pastor of Johnson's Grove Baptist Church, Jackson.

Lealice Dehoney, a 1961 graduate and co-owner of Dehoney's Bibleland/Heritage Travel in Louisville, Ky. She is a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church, Louisville.

John Dickinson, a 1948 Union graduate and retired planter from Denmark. Dickinson, who previously served on the board of trustees for six years, is a member of Woodland Baptist Church, Brownsville.

Ben Fesmire, co-owner and executive vice president of Jackson Financial Services, Inc. A 1984 Union graduate, he is a member of Poplar Heights Baptist Church, Jackson.

John McRee, owner of McRee Realty Company in Memphis. McRee, who has 19 years of service on Union's board of trustees, is a member of First Baptist Church, Memphis.

Thomas L. Moore, Weakley County judge. Moore, who has six years of prior service on the board, is a member of First Baptist Church, Dresden.

Wayne Perkins, pastor of First Baptist Church, Kenton. Perkins is a 1981 Union graduate.

Frank Samuels, pastor of First Baptist Church, Waynesboro.

John Williams, president of Jackson Utility Division. Williams, a former chairman of the board, served seven years as a member of Union's board of trustees. He is a member of Ward's Grove Baptist Church, Jackson.

The board's officers for 1996-97 include businessman John Drinnon of Germantown, chairman; Humboldt attorney Floyd Flippin, vice chairman; and Max Walker, pastor of First Baptist Church, Selmer, secretary.
