Airmen and the plane's captain ready the F14 for the next flight from the deck of the USS Harry S. Truman. The plane's captain, typically the most junior person in the crew, is responsible for final check and inspection of the plane before the pilot takes the wheel. - Jim Veneman

Peace through strength - Flight deck personnel clear the way for the launch of an S-3B Viking assigned to the "Checkmates" of Sea Control Squadron Two Two (VS-22) from the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) during heavy rain. The aircraft carrier and embarked units are deployed conducting combat missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Operation Iraqi Freedom is the multinational coalition effort to liberate the Iraqi people, eliminate Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and end the regime of Saddam Hussein. - Jim Veneman

She compares this with Saddam Hussein and his willingness to hurt his own for the sake of his regime. Chairs that sit empty are normally filled. Several women couldn't make it due to responsibilities associated with another launch of planes scheduled for later in the evening. - Jim Veneman
