Family Weekend 2005 is your chance to experience all Union University has to offer. There’s something for everyone at Family Weekend: On Friday, informative workshops will provide an inside look at Union Life, and the night will be capped off with a banquet and desserts by the Fountain. Union siblings can get a real inside look at college life through the sibling sleepover. Saturday will be filled with exciting sports, great entertainment, and wonderful food. Start your morning with The President’s Brunch followed by flag football games, Union Soccer, and All Sing that evening. Come join us for a fun-filled weekend that’s all for U!

Howard and Debbie will discuss investing for your retirement and future education expenses. Tax laws will be covered with an emphasis on new tax changes relating to higher education. Jacqueline Taylor, Director of Career Services & Ms. Ashley Guinn, Assistant
Director. Jacque Taylor and Ashley Guinn will discuss how Career
Services integrates Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (physiological, safety,
belonging, esteem, self-actualization, and transcendence) into its career
planning and development process both on the micro and macro levels.
Understanding one’s position in life is the key to planning for a future
with positive results, personally and professionally. This session will
share Career Services’ strategy for meeting the holistic needs of Union
University students as well as Career Services’ commitment to helping
students understand their calling for a fulfilling career! Helping your Student to Succeed in College: A Parent’s Guide—Hosted by Paul Deschenes, Psy.D. Director of Counseling Services. Counseling Services is available to assist students and parents in the transition to college. In addition to the traditional counseling services we offer students help with study skills, time management, organizational skills, test taking skills, test anxiety, roommate problems, adjustment problems and disability issues. We will also talk about how parents can support their students through this transition. A3 - 3:15 p.m. The Millennial Generation—Hosted by Dr. Kimberly Thornbury, Dean of Students. Dr. Thornbury will explore the Millennial “Seven Core Traits” and other generational characteristics of those born from 1982-2002. If you are the parent of a “millennial” this session will be informative and provide opportunities for discussion on the topic of parenting a millennial. B3 - 3:15 p.m. Stressed Out?—Hosted by Dr. Joanne Stephenson, Faculty Member of the Psychology Department. We all deal with stress. Dr. Stephenson will share simple strategies for a healthier and happier life. The class will practice several techniques and will leave more relaxed, armed with new skills and resources to “mellow out.” A4 - 4:15 p.m. Creative Memories—hosted by Ms. Julie Powell, Instructor PEWS (Physical Education, Wellness, and Sport), Creative Memories Consultant. “These days would be remembered and kept from generation to generation and celebrated by every family…” Esther 9:28. Join Creative Memories Consultant Julie Powell in an educational hands-on class to help you remember your student’s days at Union! You will learn step-by-step how to turn your boxes of photos and memorabilia into keepsake, photo-safe albums. You will also complete your first page in this class, so bring 6-8 photos relating to one event. All other materials and educational handouts will be provided. B4 - 4:15 p.m. “Union University wants U2”—hosted by Enrollment Services. The session is for students in grades 9-12 and will cover topics relevant to each stage of the college search, beginning in grade 9 and ending with the actual process of enrollment in college. Come hear for yourself the many benefits of Union University—a school committed to academic excellence under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and a fun, exciting place to experience the best of the college years. A5 - 5:15 p.m. Residence Life Q & A—Hosted by Kelly Elliot, Resident Director of McAfee Residence Complex, MS Counseling Psychology, MA physical education. Join Resident Director Kelly Elliot as she gives insight to the wonderful educational opportunities that your son and daughter will experience in Union’s Residence Life Program; there will be plenty of time for questions. Kelly is also a wife and mother of two. B5 - 5:15 p.m. If I only knew then…--Hosted by the Union University Class of 2006. Who better to speak about Union University than those students who are nearing graduation? A panel of Union seniors will reflect upon their time at Union and offer sound advice and even field your questions, filling in the blank “If I only knew then what I know now…” Jameson Inn—Located closer to Union University than any other accommodations, this hotel includes: King or Full size beds, outdoor pool, in-room high speed Internet hookups, workout facilities, free USA Today, and continental breakfast. The Double Tree Hotel houses a beautiful lobby and an award-winning restaurant. King rooms and suites are available. All rooms are equipped with computer hookups. Old English Inn & Conference Center—This newly renovated hotel has the charm of an English country house and offers catering by champion Cajun cookers. This hotel offers King or Full size beds, wireless high-speed internet access, free continental breakfast, fitness center, and outdoor pool. Their Family Weekend rate is $55.00*, and each reservation brings a $5 donation to Union University courtesy of the Old English Inn. Call (731) 668-1571. includes oversized king or double-queen rooms in a country décor. Country

Bring your sleeping bag and camp out in your brother or sister’s room. Find out what college life at Union is really like and how messy (or clean) your sibling keeps their room. Each student must register his or her sibling at the Commons by Friday, October 7, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. Union students are responsible for their siblings staying in their room and must accompany them at all times. Only siblings of the same sex may stay in the dorms unless arrangements are made by current Union students for their siblings to stay with friends.
