About
Hayward Armstrong has served at Union University since 2012. Prior to that time, he served twenty-seven years with the International Mission Board, including more than twenty years in various assignments and countries in South America, and six years at the IMB’s International Centre for Excellence in Leadership. Following his time of service with the IMB, he served seven years at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary as Associate Vice President for Distance Education and Innovative Learning and Associate Professor of Missions.

Hayward has written several books, in both Spanish and English, on missions, spiritual disciplines, and Christian education. He is an ordained minister and ordained deacon. He preaches occasionally in local churches and currently serves as a deacon at West Jackson Baptist Church, Jackson.

He has been joyfully married to Sherra for more than 40 years. He and Sherra are the parents of a son and a daughter and have five grandchildren. Growing up in Alabama, he was trained early to be a Crimson Tide fan. He and his restored classic Chevy pickup were born in the same month, same year, about the middle of the twentieth century.
