An Inklings Weekend in Montreat
Friday evening April 17 - Sunday noon April 19, 2015
Montreat College, Montreat, NC
Join us in the Misty Mountains (known locally by the elves as the Smokey Mountains) at Rivendell (known locally as Montreat College) near Black Mountain, NC as we celebrate the 100th birthday of Joy Davidman Lewis, and as we consider
"The Inklings and the Ladies"
Though the Inklings were a group of men, the centennial anniversary of the birth of Joy Davidman reminds us that several important female literary figures interacted with them in an influential way. We will explore several of those relationships; including Joy Davidman, Dorothy L. Sayers, Ruth Pitter, Stella Aldwinckle, and Sister Penelope.
Featuring music, worship, food, and good conversation with:
- Colin Duriez — Author of The C. S. Lewis Encyclopedia, Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings: A Guide to Middle Earth, The Inklings Handbook, and many, many more. He appears on the Lord of the Rings extended DVD as an authority on Tolkien. A former editor with InterVaristy Press/UK, he makes his home in the Lake District of England.
- Crystal Hurd — Author of Thirty Days with C.S. Lewis: A Women's Devotional. Hurd's website crystalhurd.com explores the contributions of C. S. Lewis to modern Christian faith. Her doctoral dissertation investigates Lewis in terms of Transformational Leadership theory.
- Don King — Author of C. S. Lewis, Poet: The Legacy of His Poetic Impulse and Out of My Bone: The Letters of Joy Davidman, King edits the Christian Scholar's Review and teaches literature at Montreat College where he formerly served as dean
