At 7:02 p.m. on Tuesday evening, the Union University campus was devastated by serious tornadic activity, resulting in extensive damage to the facilities. Following a nearly five-hour emergency effort, all students -- including the 13 who were trapped in the fallen rubble -- were rescued. Fifty-one students were taken to the hospital, nine of whom suffered serious injury. By God’s providence, no lives were lost.

• What athletic division do the Union Bulldogs compete in?
  Union University is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and the Bulldogs play Division 1 athletics. Because of our NAIA D1 status, Union is able to offer athletic scholarships.
  
  
• What is your student to faculty ratio?
  Union boasts an extremely competitive 11:1 student to teacher ratio - further proof that Union University is committed to the highest level of academic excellence. Christian professors who are at the top of their field are investing in the lives of students on an individual basis.
  
  
• When is the best time to apply?
  Union University reviews applications through a "rolling admissions" process which means that we review and respond to applications as soon as they are complete. The typical turnaround time for a response is about two weeks. As with any process, the earlier the better! Although Union doesn't have a strict deadline for application there are a few important benefits to applying early. Primarily, you ensure for yourself a smooth enrollment process and the best financial aid package possible. Once you've been accepted a deposit for housing and registration seals your spot in line for your first semester classes and your dorm room, and although Union's course work and housing are top-notch, there are always best-case scenarios given to those students who get an early start on things.
  
  
• What safety precautions are in place in the event of another storm?
  Each bottom floor apartment of the new residence complex has a bathroom designated as a tornado safe room. These rooms are steel reinforced and meet tornado shelter standards. Also, the exterior construction of the dorms was built to Florida coast standards. The University has also instituted a new text message emergency notification system available to all students, faculty and staff of Union University.
  
  
• Will freshmen be allowed to live in the new residence complexes?
  Freshmen are allowed to live in the new dorms on a space-available basis.
  
  
• How is it determined which dorm you will live in?
  Current students will have preference in choosing to live in the new residence complexes. Freshmen or Transfer students desiring to live in the new residence complexes need to make that request known on their housing request form. New students will be allowed to live in the new residence complexes on a space-available basis. Residence placement priority will be given to current Union students based on their preference.
  
  
• Has the number of scholarships being awarded been affected?
  No. Union University remains committed to a vibrant, competitive scholarship program.
  
  
• Due to building new dorms, will housing prices increase?
  The costs of the new residence complexes will be approximately $650 a year more expensive than the current Heritage pricing structure. Students may request to live in either option.
