DANIEL A. SIEDELL


Daniel A. Siedell is Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art History, Theory, and Criticism at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Director of Whale & Star, the studio of artist Enrique Martínez Celaya, in Miami, Florida. He has a B.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, an M.A. from SUNY-Stony Brook, and a Ph.D. from The University of Iowa. From 1996-2007 he served as Curator of the Sheldon Museum of Art, where he organized numerous exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, which have traveled to such venues as the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, MA, Des Moines Art Center, and the National Academy in New York. His publications include Weldon Kees and the Arts at Midcentury (University of Nebraska Press, 2003), Martínez Celaya: Early Work (Whale & Star, 2006), and God in the Gallery (Baker Academic, 2008). His writings have appeared in the Journal of Modern Literature, Journal of Aesthetic Education, Art Criticism, ArtUS, Comment, and Books & Culture. He is a Fellow at the Center for the Theology of Cultural Engagement, Portland, Oregon
