Planning to Apply to Medical School?
If your goal is to attend medical school, Union University is a good choice as an undergraduate institution. The overall national medical school acceptance rate is about 39 percent, but the acceptance rate for Union graduates is significantly above the national average. If you really want to boost your chances, consider becoming a chemistry or biochemistry major at Union.
Over the past five years, every one of our chemistry graduates who has applied to medical school has been accepted. Of course, we can't promise that result for every individual, but being a Union chemistry major will give you a big advantage. As a chemistry major, you get the benefit of an American Chemical Society certified program, which provides a degree of rigor greater than most other schools. Studying chemistry will equip you to perform well on the critical Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), one of the most important factors in determining medical school acceptance.
Often overlooked in undergraduate preparation for medical school is the need for proficient mathematical skills. Our chemistry program has math as a key aspect, with several courses in the major focused on building applied math skills. In addition, chemistry builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which also contribute to superior performance on the MCAT.
If you're looking for a way to maximize your chance of medical school acceptance, carefully consider being a Union University chemistry or biochemistry major.

"The field of chemistry is rigorous, competitive, and dynamic. Furthermore, the culture surrounding the profession of a chemist is often challenging to one's faith. Union University's chemistry program, in particular their exceptionally engaging faculty, did not only equip me with technical knowledge that affords me praise in the workplace, but a Christ-Centered foundation to the hard science I love so dearly.
The professors guide their students through complex concepts and laboratory work designed to apply directly to any future in the field, which opens up a multitude of opportunities in industry or obtaining an advanced degree. Indeed, some of my favorite times at Union were the conversations that cultivated personal connections with my chemistry professors."
