Lord Wins Mini-Golf Tournament in Sudden Death
Posted Sep 9, 2025
We knew that things were going Brooklyn Lord's way when she hit a hole-in-one on the first hole of the department's annual Mini-Golf Tournament at 3-Rivers Mini-Golf in Humboldt. Even though she said this might be her second time to ever play putt putt, she will take home the prize asthe Annika Sorenstam of Mini-Golf and forever be the 2025 Political Science Mini-Golf Champion.
While Lord won the tournament, it was a competitive event. Lane Pyron was leading for most of the tournament. He may have gotten a little overconfident and started having fun by sinking shots with his putter like it was pool cue. But Lord showed that slow and steady can be effective. At the end of 18, we totaled the scores and had the first tie in department history. This led to a sudden death playoff on 3-Rivers #3. On this hole, you have to knock the ball into the water and let the stream carry the ball down to the green around the hole. Pyron went first and hit his ball within four feet of the hole. Lord got her ball stuck in the water behind a rock but eventually got her ball down to about 10 feet from the cup. Lord then sunk the long ball placing the pressure on Pyron. He was unable to sink his putt giving Brooklyn an unexpected victory.
We look forward to Brooklyn celebrating her victory at Evanspalooza this Spring and defending her title next fall.
