Our Students
STUDENT RESEARCH
Our students are strongly encouraged to build a research portfolio through their research methods courses and specific class projects. In 2017, four students presented their research at the Mid-South Sociological Association's annual conference in Chattanooga, Tenn.
HONORS TRACK
Allows students to work with their professors to exchange assigned readings and assignments for other work that advances a thesis paper or community project within their interests.
Service Opportunities
- Teaching and mentoring teens in the Jackson juvenile justice system.
- Leading and assisting in classrooms at a local non-profit preschool for at-risk students.
- Helping to develop (and even teach) curriculum for local parenting classes
STUDENT SUCCESSES
Josie Carrier is a sociology and math double major. She is employed as a research assistant for the Docent Group, which gathers social scientific research to assist the planning of Christian organizations, including churches. She plans to attend graduate school to study the social influences of health.
Emily Parrett is a sociology major who completed an internship with the Jackson Police Department during the summer of 2017. She will pursue a career in law enforcement following graduation
