Scholarship Requirements

  • Overall high school GPA: 3.75 (unweighted, 4.0 scale)
  • Minimum test scores: ACT (excluding Writing component): 28; SAT (combined Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math): 1320; or CLT (combined Verbal Reasoning, Grammar Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning): 86. These requirements may be updated from time to time to reflect changes made by the organizations that develop and administer these standardized tests.
  • References: One pastoral reference; one academic reference from an honors or AP high school humanities course instructor or if a homeschool student, a suitable equivalent.
  • Written Communication: an academic writing sample which demonstrates the highest level of writing proficiency with a current topic provided by the scholarship committee (this will be the essay required for the Scholars of Excellence competition).
  • Commitment to Learning: full-time enrollment per semester, and willing to be accountable through academic coaching.
  • Focus of Study: Art, Communication Arts, History, Languages, Literature, and Writing, Music, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology & Family Studies, and Theology & Missions. Other subject areas as approved by the scholarship committee. Priority given to those students whose intention is to enroll in a graduate degree program.
  • Scholars of Excellence Competition: Prospective recipients must participate in the university's academic scholarship competition, Scholars of Excellence — on campus (not virtual).

All recipients will:

  1. complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually. Awards will not be made until the results of the FAFSA are received and processed by Union University.
  2. prepare an annual summary of their progress, noting academic highlights, co-curricular activity, and giving a personal assessment of their progress.
  3. be required to make themselves available for an annual meeting with the Kalos representative as arranged by the university.
  4. be required to execute, prior to initial awarding and disbursement, a Student Information Release form giving Kalos access to the student's educational records throughout the recipient's enrollment at the University, for as long as the student receives Kalos aid.
