JACKSON, Tenn. — May 13, 2013 — Russell D. Moore, president-elect of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, will be the keynote speaker at Union University’s 188th annual spring commencement May 18.
About 660 graduates will receive their degrees during the ceremony, making it the largest spring graduation in Union’s history.
“We are honored to have Russell Moore as the 2013 commencement speaker at Union University,” Union President David S. Dockery said. “Dr. Moore is an insightful observer of culture, a brilliant theologian, an advocate for Christian higher education and a faithful follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our graduates will be blessed hearing from someone of his stature and significance.”
Moore, who will assume the ERLC presidency June 1, currently serves as dean of the School of Theology and senior vice president for academic administration at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the University of Southern Mississippi, his Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Philosophy from SBTS.
Moore is the author or editor of five books, including “Tempted and Tried,” “Adopted for Life” and “The Kingdom of Christ.”
The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. on Union’s Great Lawn.
