JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 6, 2015 — Author and poet Kevin Young will give a reading at Union University Oct. 22, sponsored by the Lyceum Committee and the Union University English department.
Young is the author of eight books of poetry, most recently “Book of Hours,” which was featured on National Public Radio’s “Fresh Air,” and editor of eight others. His previous book, “Ardency: A Chronicle of the Amistad Rebels,” won a 2012 American Book Award, and “Jelly Roll: A Blues” was a finalist for the National Book Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and winner of the Paterson Poetry Prize.
Young is the Atticus Haygood Professor of Creative Writing and English and curator of Literary Collections and the Raymond Danowski Poetry Library at Emory University in Atlanta.
The reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Carl Grant Events Center. A book signing and reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public.
