JACKSON, Tenn. — March 3, 2022 — Nathan Finn, provost and dean of the university faculty at North Greenville University, will give the sixth annual David and Lanese Dockery Lectures on Baptist Thought and Heritage at Union University March 10.
“These lectures have established a reputation as a significant venue for discussing Baptist history with an eye to drawing wisdom for our future,” said Ray Van Neste, dean for Union’s School of Theology and Missions. “This tradition of excellence continues this year as we welcome Dr. Nathan Finn, one of our leading Baptist historians today. His timely topics for the lectures will be instructive and helpful as we move ahead in challenging times.”
Prior to serving at North Greenville in Tigerville, South Carolina, Finn served at Union from 2015-2018 as dean for the School of Theology and Missions and professor of theological studies. He also served as associate professor of historical theology and spiritual formation at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary from 2007-2015.
A graduate of Brewton-Parker College, Finn completed both his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
The Dockery Lectures are named for former Union President David S. Dockery, who served as president from 1996-2014, and his wife Lanese. This annual event is designed to examine the important of the Baptist heritage, the distinctives of Baptist thought and the influence of the Christian intellectual tradition.
Finn will deliver two lectures: “Toward a Holistic Interpretation of Southern Baptist History” at 3:30 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium in the Barefoot Student Union Building and “Church-State Separation: A Southern Baptist Perspective” at 7 p.m. in the Carl Grant Events Center.
The lectures are free and open to the public.
