JACKSON, Tenn. — Dec. 10, 2025 — Retired Union University professor Kelvin Moore will deliver the commencement address as part of Union University’s graduation ceremonies Dec. 13 at West Jackson Baptist Church.
Moore joined the Union faculty in 1991 after serving as pastor of churches in Alabama, Louisiana and West Virginia. He taught Old Testament Survey, New Testament Survey, Hebrew Grammar and a variety of Old Testament classes before retiring in 2024 as professor of Christian studies.
He is the author of “The New Testament for the 21st Century: A Concise Guide,” “The Old Testament for the 21st Century: A Concise Guide,” “The Psalms of Lamentation and the Enigma of Suffering” and numerous articles, sermons and Bible study materials.
In addition to his Union role, Moore was pastor of Idlewild Baptist Church for 20 years. He also served as a member of the Bradford Special School District Board of Education.
Moore received Union’s Faculty Member of the Year award in 2004. He and his wife Cathy have been married for 41 years.
The graduation ceremony for all undergraduate degrees (except for associate degrees, Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership degrees and Memphis College of Urban and Theological Studies degrees) will take place at 10 a.m. The ceremony for students receiving associate, BSOL, MCUTS and graduate degrees will begin at 1:30 p.m.
