JACKSON, Tenn. — March 16, 2026 — Dr. Scott James, associate professor of pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, will deliver the annual Scholar-in-Residence Lectures at Union University March 23-26.
James leads a research laboratory focused on antiviral screening and drug development. He serves nationally through leadership roles on the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties and with the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society.
In addition, James is an author of children’s books and family devotionals, including “The Sower,” “The Littlest Watchman,” “The Expected One” and “Deep Breath, Little Whisper.”
He and his wife, Jaime, have four children and live in Birmingham, where he serves as one of the pastors of The Church at Brook Hills.
James will give five lectures at Union as part of the series:
• “Leading Well in Health Care Settings” on March 23 at 4:30 p.m. in the yield2Yield Conference Center on the third floor of The Ethos Forum.
• “Feeling Heard: Navigating Conversations about Childhood Immunizations” on March 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the yield2Yield Conference Center.
• “A Life of Psalm-Shaped Prayer” on March 25 at 10 a.m. in G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel (available via livestream).
• “To the Ends of the Earth (Including Your Workplace)” on March 25 at 3:30 p.m. in the yield2Yield Conference Center.
• “Balanced Callings: A Conversation on Church Leadership as a Layperson” on March 26 at 3:30 p.m. in the yield2Yield Conference Center.
All lectures are free and open to the public. The Office of the Provost sponsors the lecture series.
