Traditional BSN

If you are a student who feels called to the profession of nursing, then our traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is the place for you. At Union, you will receive a nursing education within an excellence-driven, liberal arts framework. Our expert faculty, state-of-the-art technology and excellent clinical experiences will prepare you for success in an ever-changing healthcare environment.

The traditional BSN degree typically takes eight semesters (four years) to complete. Students take a core curriculum of courses (59 hours) shared by most Union students, then an additional 61 hours in nursing coursework. Graduates are prepared for entry into the profession of nursing as generalists or for graduate-level nursing education. Admissions

Admission Criteria

Admission to the Traditional BSN is handled through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 1-800-33-UNION or info@uu.edu.

Students qualifying for Unconditional Admission to Union University must meet two of the following criteria:

  • 22 ACT (excluding Writing component), 1100 SAT (combined Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math), or 72 Classical Learning Test (CLT)
  • 2.5 GPA
  • Top 50% of Graduating Class

Students who qualify for Unconditional admission must have a minimum of 18 ACT/860 SAT (combined critical reading and math scores) and a 2.0 Core GPA regardless of whether or not either of these criteria were utilized to qualify for admission. These two criteria serve as a "floor" for Unconditional Admission.

Transfer students may be admitted to the university with a GPA of 2.3 and an ACT of 20 but must meet progression requirements to file Request for Progression to Nursing Courses by March 1st. Students with 2 or more nursing failures are not eligible for admission.

Requirements to Progress to Nursing Courses
  • Completion of core courses before starting the Nursing curriculum as found in the curriculum map (see below) for freshman and sophomore years. Grades of C or higher are required for all Natural Science, Social Science, Math and English courses with a minimum cumulative and Science GPA of 3.0.
  • ACT 20 or higher
  • Cumulative GPA 3.0
  • Science GPA 3.0 (A&P I, A&P II, Microbiology, Chemistry, Pathophysiology)
  • A&P I, A&P II and Pathophysiology must have been taken within five years of beginning nursing courses
  • Submission of Request to Progress to Nursing before March 1st
