Nursing in Global Languages

Do you dream of providing nursing care worldwide to patients in their own languages? Union's Nursing and Language program, a collaboration between Union's College of Nursing and the Department of Languages, Literature, and Writing, can help you meet your goals. Combining a BSN with a minor in Spanish gives you the ability to provide outstanding patient care to Latino patients in the United States or Spanish speakers abroad. Wherever you serve, whether domestically, on mission trips abroad, or by working as a travel nurse internationally, adding a Spanish minor to your nursing major gives you the skills and confidence to communicate with patients in their first language and better connect across cultures.

Minor in Spanish

Combining a Spanish minor with your nursing major is an increasingly popular choice for Union students. Our language courses are designed to help you minister effectively to your patients' needs by giving you the tools to communicate with them in their first language and be sensitive to their cultural backgrounds as a health care practitioner. Our tight-knit community of language students will support you as you progress through communication-based courses in conversation, translation, grammar, culture, reading, and professional communications to prepare you to care compassionately and effectively for your Spanish-speaking patients, whether in the United States or internationally.

Nursing students usually complete the Spanish minor during their first two years of study. Union's language faculty assist with placement at the right course level for you and to help you move confidently and efficiently through the program. We offer year-round study abroad options to help you achieve your calling. Union's language faculty can help you with options in your minor to help you achieve your goals.
