Aug 24, 2020 - Interprofessional education (IPE) occurs when healthcare students from two or more disciplines learn about, from and with each other. The iPEX Program is a national program funded by the National Cancer Institute to advance interprofessional education in cancer care. Healthcare educator interprofessional teams participating in the program complete various training activities, such as webinars, on-line training modules and a 2.5 day workshop in Chicago, Illinois, where they develop skills to conduct quality IPE.
Education and training received through the iPEX program will help guide development of an interprofessional curriculum in oncology among Union University College of Pharmacy (UUCOP) and Meharry Medical College (MMC) students. Faculty team members are Kim Lindsey-Goodrich, PharmD, Director of Interprofessional Education; Zac Halford, PharmD, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice; Regina Offodile, MD, Interim Chair of the Department of Professional & Medical Education, MMC School of Medicine; Anita Sykes-Smith, DDS, Interprofessional Education Coordinator, MMC School of Dentistry; and Leah Alexander, PhD, Assistant Professor, MMC Division of Public Health Practice, School of Graduate Studies and Research.
The grant is typically awarded to eight to nine teams yearly and this is the third cohort accepted to the program.
