Master of Arts in Bible and Theology
The School of Theology and Missions offers a 42-hour Master of Arts in Bible and Theology (MABT) that provides a Christ-centered education that equips pastors and other ministry leaders to serve the church and society. The Christian faith is central to the MABT as the program centers on the Christian Scriptures, teaches essential theological tenets of the Christian faith, and equips pastors for ministry in local churches.

Miles separate physical institutions. But Jesus is Lord over distance. In God's providence, two institutions with Bible saturated, Christ-exalting visions for theological education partnered together in 2023. Bethlehem College and Seminary passed a baton to Union University. In the fall of 2024, Union University will offer an MA in Bible and Theology, which is the continuation of Bethlehem's faithful labors. The work of training pastors in Memphis continues! I am deeply thankful to be a part of what God is doing in this city.
For a number of years now, a group of students have gathered one night a week to study the New Testament in Greek. When these students first meet, in August, they haven't even known their Greek alphabet. Yet, within weeks, they're translating verses from the New Testament. And by the spring, they're translating the entire prologue to John's Gospel. I've seen it happen year after year. To be clear, in order to arrive at that goal, and that quickly, certainly takes a good bit of work. Yet repeatedly these students have done it, primarily because they've had encouragement from others attempting to do the same thing.
What a blessing it's been for me to be a part of theological education and pastoral training in the Memphis area for the last several years through Bethlehem College and Seminary! Now to be able to offer that same training through Union University's new Master of Arts in Bible and Theology is even more exciting! I've long appreciated the theological and academic excellence of Union and am thrilled to be a part of what God is doing in Memphis through this distinguished institution.
