Alternative assessment is an
ongoing process that involves both the student and the teacher by using
non-conventional strategies such as collaborative learning, portfolio
assessment, or K-W-L charts. It provides assessment that is authentic to
the student and it best resembles the classroom setting. These types of
assessments focus on documenting individual student growth over time with
an emphasis on the students' strengths rather than their weaknesses.
- Oral
Performances or Presentations- This form of assessment are
conducted during one on one or group interviews, oral reports, or
role-plays.
- Portfolio
Assessment- It provides the teacher and the student with a
"see how far the student has come" concept.
- K-W-L
Charts- These charts focus on what the student already knows and
builds on that prior knowledge.
