Hiring Process
Each campus office/department will have different timelines for making hiring decisions. Some supervisors will conduct very formal interviews, while others may opt for more informal conversations. Regardless, always treat any interaction with a potential employer as an interview. The office/department will notify you if you've been selected for hire.
Timecards and Pay Periods
Students record their work hours on selfservice.uu.edu and are paid on a biweekly basis via Direct Deposit.

If you've been selected for hire, you'll receive an email from the Vocatio Center with instructions to complete some employment forms online as well as I-9 verification. I-9 verification is a short, in-person meeting where you are required to provide authentic document(s) for employment verification.

For international students with an F-1 visa, once you have been offered a job, your next step is to obtain a Social Security Number, and this must be done prior to starting work. Check out the International Student Checklist, and contact Pam Whitnell, the International Student Officer, for more details.
Once you have completed all of the on-boarding steps, you will receive an email confirmation clearing you to begin work.

- Department Assistant - Communication Arts - FWS
General office assistance including but not limited to: social media management, promotional writing, photography, objective grading, running Scantrons, research, updating departmental bulletin boards, campus errands, copying, and filing. Successful candidates must be extremely detail-oriented, able to work independently and available to work >2 consecutive hours any time on M/W, and specifically afternoons on T/Th. Common tasks require working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, and social media accounts.A cover letter is required for this application and should include why you are interested in this position, a list of all the COM classes you have taken, any previous office or work experience, and a list of any experience you have with Social Media management. A Com Major would be preferable.
- Student Photographer - University Communications - FWS
This is a paid position with University Communications. Applicants need to have experience in this field of study or are currently enrolled in a photo class.A digital Resume and Portfolio are requested. Finalists will have a face-to-face interview with our creative team. Job assignments are confirmed weekly and photographers are expected to work an average of 8-12 hours weekly. Some training is required at the beginning of the semester for archiving photos.
- Department Assistant - Nursing - FWS
The Student Worker will provide essential support to both Undergraduate and Graduate Nursing Coordinators in the College of Nursing. This position will consist of tasks from, but not limited to, organizing student files, making copies, scanning, and other clerical duties. Any other duties the Undergraduate and/or Graduate Coordinators need assistance with will be thoroughly explained to the student. Very flexible scheduling!Required QualificationsStudents with a nursing major DO NOT qualify for this position. All other majors are acceptable.Preferred QualificationsStudents in their freshman or sophomore year are preferred.TrainingThe Coordinators will train the student thoroughly and will be close by for any questions or needed future training.
- Math Department Assistant - FWS
The Department Assistant provides clerical and administrative support to the Math Department and its faculty and academic secretary. Duties will depend on the abilities and interests of the student hired but may include limited grading, maintaining bulletin boards, typesetting solutions to calculus problems using LaTeX, assisting with social media, assisting with department events, cleaning department spaces, and providing other support to the faculty and secretary.
- Dining Services Student Worker Lead
Union University Dining Services is currently seeking a leader, responsible for various aspects of the dining operation including being a lead for student workers.A professional work ethic is required including your commitment to report to work as scheduled. Your schedule will be based on the operational needs. In addition to normal job responsibilities, you will work with supervisors/managers to ensure student workers are operating efficiently and effectively.Working with Dining Services includes uniforms, and a complimentary meal to eat on your break or after each shift worked. Based on experience and performance, Dining Services will identify student employees for leadership positions for student manager positions. Dining Services also awards an annual $1000 scholarship to one deserving student worker who returns to work in Dining Services in the fall of the next school year.

This position lies within the Study Abroad program and the Department pf LLW. Some of the daily responsibilities will be to assist students with initial Study Abroad questions and to communicate effectively with all visitors. Also, answering phone calls and taking messages. Looking for friendly concession workers to prepare and sell food and drinks at home soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, and baseball games. Working the cash register and Square iPad technology is also a part of the concession experience. Cleanliness, organization, and people skills are necessary. We are not asking employees to work every home game but a few games each month based on student-worker availability.
- Circle of Support Leader - EDGE Program - FWS
This position is responsible for providing support for students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD). This support will vary based on the needs of each individual EDGE student and will coincide with the program focuses of Employment Training, Daily Living Skills, Godly Focus, and Educational Enrichment. This position is responsible as a primary peer mentor/peer leader within the students’ circle of support and liaison between other mentors and EDGE staff.

Students will work with a professor in a lab class and/or with the chemical stockroom manager in the chemical stockroom. The student must have successfully completed CHE-111 and preferably also CHE-112 and must be available one or more days either 8-10 a.m. or 1:40-4:30 (TTh) or 2:00-4:50 p.m. (MWF).
