Interview with Kathie Chute, Communication Arts - recipient of the Teaching and Learning Grant-Conference Attendance

Kathie Chute

1. Briefly describe what you did with your Teaching and Learning Grant.

I attended the Public Relations Society of America International Conference in Detroit, MI

2. How was your teaching and your students’ learning enhanced by this grant?

This annual conference is filled with professional development opportunities that bring me up to date on trends and practices in the field of public relations. I pass on what I learn to students, and that knowledge is very important as they look toward employment after graduation. The information enhances class material and makes it much more timely and practical.

3. How did (or might) this grant award lead to other opportunities to further develop your teaching and enhance learning?

It made me aware of several opportunities, such as service on the national review teams for Certification of Education in Public Relations and CEPR possibilities for our program at Union. It also put me in contact with other educators and professionals in public relations, which has led to discussions about internship opportunities and materials available for my students.
