Dr. George Guthrie and
Dr.
David Dockery co-wrote
The
Holman Guide to Interpreting the Bible,
published this summer by Broadman & Holman. This short book sets
forth the basics of interpreting, applying and communicating the
Word of God in teaching and preaching. Taking Philippians 2:5-11
as an example, Guthrie and Dockery walk the reader through the
steps of good interpretation and application of the text. Dr.
Guthrie has also published
a chapter in a
book: “Hebrews in Its First-Century Contexts: Recent Research,”
in THE FACE OF NEW TESTAMENT STUDIES, edited by Scot McKnight
and Grant Osborne (Baker Academic and Apollos). |

Dr. Jim
Patterson’s article on
"The Baptist Faith and Message and Denominational Identity" was
published in the
Union
University Bulletin (vol.
3, no. 2, 2004), and "Writing Commemorative History for
Christian Institutions: Propaganda or a Legitimate Scholarly
Enterprise?" appeared in
Fides et
Historia 36
(Winter/Spring 2004). |

Neste completed twelve
book reviews this summer for various publications including
Themelios, The Southern Baptist Journal of Theology, Evangelical
Quarterly, and
The Founders

Dr. Hal Poe’s
book
Christianity in the Academy: Teaching at the Intersection of Faith and Learning was published by Renewedminds in March 2004. This book looks at the serious issues facing Christian educators at institutions of higher education, and addresses interdisciplinary dialogue and cultural issues relating to this sphere. |
