Cardinal & Cream
The Cardinal & Cream is an excellent opportunity for photojournalism students to gain experience and develop a portfolio of quality work. Under the guidance of Jim Veneman, photographers cover the main events of the campus for both the campus newspaper and the Office of University Communications. Southwestern Photojournalism Conference
Southwestern Photojournalism Conference is an annual conference sponsored by Christians in Photojournalism for those to believe photojournalism to be a calling and the act of bearing witness to be important. Coordinated by Union’s Jim Veneman the conference, held in Ft. Worth, Texas, brings together photojournalists from across the world to share their work and their passion with one another. Baptist Press Collegiate Journalism Conference and Competition
Students interested in photojournalism can participate in a separate track designed for aspiring photojournalists lead by Jim Veneman and Morris Abernathy of Union University, Bill Bangham of the International Mission Board, as well as Gary Fong of the San Francisco Chronicle and Jessica Webb Sibley of the Daytona Beach News-Journal. Students also submit their work in the Excellence in Journalism competition. Union students have won numerous first place awards in photography.
Photojournalism Internships
Union faculty help students connect with professionals in their fields through internships. Recent photojournalism students have interned at the Louisville Courier-Journal, Joe McNally Photography in Connecticut, the International Mission Board; the Cortez Journal in Colorado, The Jackson Sun, and the Baptist Times in Oxfordshire, England.
