 An 8.9-magnitude earthquake set off a tsunami, causing death and destruction in Japan.
The extent of the damage in Japan is not fully known, but thousands, likely tens of thousands, died, countless homes were destroyed and the damage has been estimated in excess of $30 billion, making it one of the worst natural disasters of all time.
In these difficult times we, as Christians, should pray for the suffering people of Japan. We should also seek to be the hands and feet of Christ, doing what we can to help the Japanese people in their time of need.

Union University Debate Team Results 2009-2010 by Web Drake, Debate Coach & Chair/Associate Professor of Communication ArtsI just wanted everyone to know the results of debate team’s incredible second season. Below is a partial listing of everything they accomplished. The statistics are pretty unrelenting! As a team, we had a 58% win percentage on the year, had a top 10 finisher in the varsity division season-long awards, and 3 of top 10 in novice. We won both novice and varsity IPDA Team Sweepstakes. And because of the efforts of the wonderful team, I was given the Bennett Strange Coach of the Year Award! Below is a chronological listing of the tournaments we attended and what we did.

Alexander, who's not, not, not, not, not going to move! by David Burke, Professor of Theatre & Director of TheatreThe Union University Players performed Judith Viorst's Alexander, Who's Not, Not, Not, Not, Not, Not Going to Move to over 2500 elementary school students from over 20 schools in the region, including a school from Mississippi. The play, which ran from Nov. 5-8, continues the story of Alexander. After weathering all those comic calamities in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, the loveable and irrepressible Alexander now faces his biggest challenge ever: moving—as he puts it—"a thousand miles away!" Everyone is packing, but NOT Alexander, who can't bear the thought of leaving his best friend Paul...his tree house...his soccer team...his babysitter...and everything else he considers home sweet home in this "hilarious and heartrending" (The Washington Post) musical for the whole family.

POSTED: Nov 8, 2007 - Theatre Congratulations to senior Matt Stimmell, who received a number to go to the Southeast Theatre Conference Auditions this spring. There were few audition slots this year, and many schools did not get to audition at all. Six Union students were able to audition.
The 40th Annual Tennessee Theatre Conference was a great success, and a number of our students were able to participate in the workshops and discussions. And mark your calendars for the 59th Annual SETC Convention, which will be in Chattanooga, March 5-9, 2008.

    Alpha Psi Omega
This national dramatic fraternity was founded at Fairmont State College, Fairmont,
West Virginia, on August 12, 1925. The local chapter, Beta Mu, is composed of students
who have been members of the Union University Players and have earned a set number of
points, awarded for dramatic work. The chapter seeks to develop dramatic talent, to
cultivate a taste for the best in drama, and to foster cultural dramatics.
