Design

Union Engineering fosters an instructional environment that promotes engineering design skills and inventive thinking. In most engineering courses, students are required to complete a project based on the course material. Projects help students demonstrate understanding of the course material and refine design and communication skills.

As students develop their design skills, they are encouraged to develop new products and apply for U.S. patents. This encouragement is supported in practical ways — students are taught the patent application process, and the department provides financial assistance to help students afford the first patent filing fee.

In the first four years of Union's Engineering program, seven students have obtained three separate provisional patents ... and more ideas are in the works!

"It gets your name out there as being inventive and sets you apart from others when looking for a job."
- Andy Robinette
