March  2005  Congratulations to Dr. Jeannette Russ on her recent promotion to Associate Professor!  We are very proud of her achievement!

May  2005  Union Engineering was the co-sponsor of the Memphis Area Science and Engineering Conference.  This conference was held in Memphis on May 11, 2005 at CBU.  Dr. Van, Engineering department Chair and professor Smith of the Biology department contributed to the conference with a presentation "The Effect of Nickel on Thermophilic Bacteria in Industrial Wastewater Treatment".  For more information, please access the following link.http://www.maesc.org/maesc05/track2.html

August  2005  Welcome Prof Ilyoul (Walter) Lee.  Union Engineering is honored to have Prof Lee with us in 2005-2006 as a visiting professor of Electrical Engineering.  He is from Yanbian University of Science and Technology in China.  He's here to teach Electrical Engineering laboratories, to regularly give lectures to expose our engineering students and faculty to international teaching and learning of Engineering (esp. in China), and to share his experience in the integration of engineering learning and mission.  Prof Lee is an inventor and has over 40 years of professional experience in Engineering in the US.

October 2005 Another milestone was made!!!  In the first week of October (the 2nd through the 4th), The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) conducted a thorough review of the Engineering program for accreditation.  We expect excellent results when the Board convenes for an official decision by mid July 2006.

December 2005 Engineering students conducted presentations of their engineering projects during the week of December 5, 2005.  To highlight the learning during the semester, the following project presentations were given: Robotics, OpAmp circuit design, Virtual bridge design and analysis, Design of experiment using actual data from the manufacturing floor, Virtual Basic for Application as it applies to engineering education, Solar energy design project with sun tracking mechanism, Industry-sponsored capstone design I project.
