Scope of the Course: Comprehensive review of French grammar with attention given to advanced concepts and structures not covered in lower level courses. We will also focus on the development of writing skills and application of grammar concepts through composition.
Objectives of the Course: The aims of this course are to strengthen the student’s understanding of French grammar through a systematic study of basic and advanced principles and to improve written communication skills.
Required Text: Contrastes, Denise Rochat (Pierson) 2nd ed.
Strongly Recommended Text: English Grammar for Students of French
Recommended Text: a bilingual French dictionary (can be used on final exam), an extensive verb resource book (can NOT be used on final)
Method of Instruction: Students are expected to have read opening text and grammar explanations and to have prepared the assigned exercises prior to class. A large portion of the class time will be spent in activities providing students with grammar practice and written exercises. We will also take time to discuss grammar challenges presented in the essays.
Attendance Regular class attendance is expected.
