 Faculty 

  • January 2005--Julie Glosson presents Lifelines for Teachers Continuing Ed Program at JSCC "Strategies for Success with Second Language Learners"
  • Spring 2005-- Phillip Ryan presented his dissertation at University of Pennsylvania, and the Center for Advanced Research in Language Acquisition at the University of Minnesota.

  • February 2005--Spanish Professor Karen Martin presented in the Town and Gown Lecture Series.  Her presentation entitled "Fictions of War" will include references to 100 Years of Solitude and House of the Spirits.
  • Summer 2005--Julie Glosson: Traveled to Mexico City and starred as Mrs. Brice in Jackson Theatre Guild’s production of Funny Girl.

  • July 2005--Karen Martin completed comprehensive exams at Middlebury College.

  • July 2005--Victoria Malone returns to Viet Nam to conduct English as a Foreign Language camp and included in her team is Jared Lawrence TESL major and Amanda Atkinson TESL major and ICS Minor

  • Fall 2005— Julie Glosson developed a service learning translation project with Madison County Schools and Advanced Grammar II

  • Fall 2005--Phillip Ryan presented his dissertation at research conferences at Oxford University.  Member of Oxford University’s Ethnography & Education Association.

  • Fall 2005--Victoria Malone becomes full-time visiting Assistant Professor
  • Oct. 2005--Jean Marie Walls named Executive Director for the Mid-Continent Consortium for International Education. 
  • Oct.. 2005--Jean Marie Walls participated in Cultural Experience Abroad site visit to Paris and Grenoble. 
  • Nov. 2005--Jean Marie Walls received the Jacqueline Elliot Award for Service in Higher Education from the Tennessee Foreign Language Teaching Association. 
  • November 2005--Julie Glosson conducted a session entitled “Using Film in the Spanish Classroom” at TFLTA
  • Nov. 2005--Jean Marie Walls Attended the Association for the Study of Canada in the United States Biennial Conference in St. Louis. 
  • Spring 2006--Cindy Jayne will be on research leave, she will be traveling to Qingdao, China doing preparatory work for a conference on higher education leadership.

  • Spring 2006-- Karen Martin is writing dissertation on the demarcation of space in The House of the Spirits Trilogy; Presenting “La narración del cuerpo: La Violencia contra el cuerpo femenio en Cambio de armas y La casa de los espíritus.” at the 20th Century Literature Conference at the University of Louisville; Presenting “Gendered Spaces and Border Crossings: Mapping Identity in Isabel Allende’s The House of Spirits Trilogy” at the Kentucky Foreign Language Conference; Undergraduate Research Grant with Tiffany Ramirez.

  • Jan. 2006--Jean Marie Walls presented session at workshop on Canadian Studies for the Southern Association of Canadian Studies.  Will be on research leave in Quebec in Fall 2006.

  • January 2006--Julie Glosson presented a session entitled “Ten Myths About Second Language Learners” at Lifelines for Teachers Continuing Ed Program at JSCC

Others

Roger Alford (‘69) is a Pastor in Burdett, KS.  He also leads short-term mission trips to Latin America; He teaches Spanish Bible classes in prisons and jails and preaches in Hispanic churches.

Brenda Epperson (‘80) is teaching Spanish at Clarksburg High School in South Carroll County Special School District.

Lee Ann Lockman (‘86) teaches Spanish at Father Ryan High School in Nashville, TN.

Lois Ann Roaten Mitchell (‘87) currently helps with her husband’s business and homeschools their 4 year old daughter.  Prior to that she taught bilingual kindergarten for 11 years.

Amy Moeller Scott (‘94) is employed with One World Language Solutions teaching French, Spanish, Russian and ESL.

Barry Flippo (‘96) teaches French at Kirby Woods High School in Memphis, Tennessee.

Mike Baskin (‘96) is a Spanish instructor at University School of Jackson, Jackson, Tennessee.

Jason Blick (‘96) works as a probation/parole officer and is currently attending graduate school in pursuit of his M.P.A.

Brad White (‘99) and Cassie Howle White (‘01) are serving with the International Mission Board in Perú.

Jennifer Hall Baker (‘01) is working at an international church near Paris, France.

Matt Clermont (‘02) is now living in Florissant, Missouri, and is a substitute teacher.

Renita Perry (‘02) teaches TESL in Memphis city schools, Memphis, Tennessee.

Jennifer McClearen (‘02) serves in the Peace Corps in Morocco.

Ginger Rowlett (‘03) lives in Pasadena, California and teaches Ballroom dance at Arthur Murray Dance Center.

Alison Pirsein (‘03) is in graduate school at Azusa Pacific University seeking her M.A. in TESOL.

Erin Elizabeth Freshwater (‘03) is employed by Lifeway’s corporate office as a Department Assistant.
