A degree in mathematics prepares students for
employment in many industries and business. Union University
graduates have been very successful in finding job opportunities and
many have gone on to earn advanced degrees. The Mathematics
Department is proud of its success at preparing students to reach
their goals.
This is what some of our mathematics graduates have said about
their experience at Union University:
"A major in Mathematics at Union University has
greatly prepared me for graduate work in Medical Physics at The
University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. From statistical
methods to Fourier transforms, the mathematical and practical skills
I learned at Union are now being applied into my graduate work." -
Brian Taylor, currently working as a Graduate Research Assistant at
M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
"My experience in Union's math program was
invaluable to me. Being able to study mathematics within a Christian
worldview really allowed me to grow into an aspiring Christian
mathematician, not just as a mathematician who happens to be a
Christian. The members of the faculty really encouraged me in my
pursuit of mathematics - they were personally invested in my
success." - Jennifer Ellis Belton, currently working on her Ph.D. in
Mathematics at the University of Georgia.
"Being a math major at Union was one of the most
rewarding and most challenging times of my life. Making life-long
friendships with my fellow mathematicians, learning about my faith
as it relates to math, and having the Math Department faculty as
spiritual and academic mentors were just a few of the highlights
along the way. I highly recommend Union University and more
specifically the Math Department." - Nikki Vassar Huffstetler,
currently teaching mathematics at Lauderdale Middle School and
pursing an M.S. in mathematics at the University of Memphis.
"The Math Department at Union University employs the
most caring teachers I have ever met. I never would have achieved my
dream of becoming a teacher without their help and kindness." - Lori
Lynn Davis Evans, currently teaching mathematics at Dyer County High
School in Newbern, TN.
"It's great having professors that care about you
and are willing to work with you individually to help you accomplish
your goals. That doesn't happen at a lot of universities." - Amy
Ginn, currently teaching in the Mathematics Department at Kenne
State University in New Hampshire.
"I become more convinced every day about how
profitable my mathematics studies were and continue to be. Because I
have pursued other fields (accounting and then theology), I do not
remember many theorems or definitions, but I learned how to think
critically, how to systematize, and how to approach problems
incrementally. Those things can never be forgotten. I am very
grateful to the faculty." - Jamie Mosley, Director of Church
Ministries and Administration at Grace Community Church in
Nashville, TN.
