Audition dates for entrance in the 2013-14 academic year are Friday, February 15 (Scholars of Excellence participants only); Saturday, February 23; Friday March 1 and Saturday, March 2, 2013.
An audition is required for admission into a music major or music minor program. The audition is also used to evaluate the student's eligibility for a music scholarship. Criteria for admission include (1) demonstrated potential in a performance area, (2) basic musicianship, including sight-reading skills, (3) proven academic success, and (4) a clear sense of purpose as reflected in an interview during the audition. Functional keyboard examinations will be given to non-keyboard majors for placement into the correct keyboard level.
Music scholarships are awarded by audition and arranged by the Department of Music. Music scholarships are awarded on the basis of talent and departmental needs. Music major scholarships may be added to other forms of financial aid.
To obtain a copy of the application, you may download the Music Department application here (.pdf file - Adobe Reader is required) or call the number below to request a copy by mail.
Recorded auditions are accepted only in cases where geographic distance prevents a student from auditioning on campus. Here is a list of suggested types of music for auditions (Instrumental, Keyboard, and Vocal).

I. Music Major
A student receiving this scholarship must be a full-time music major, maintain a 2.0 grade point average, and earn a grade of B or higher in applied lessons. It is possible to combine a music major scholarship with any of the other scholarships offered by the Department of Music.
II. Proclamation
Voices of Proclamation is an audition-only, touring vocal ensemble, open to any sophomore, junior or senior Union University student. Proclamation scholarships may be combined with other types of music scholarships.
III. Band/Jazz Band
Band and Jazz Band scholarships are open to all students regardless of major.
IV. Work Study Grants
Work study grants are available to eligible students within the Department of Music. Talented pianists will be considered for study grants to serve as accompanists regardless of academic major.
