Attendance
Each family is expected to maintain a high level of commitment through
consistent attendance and punctuality. Because each student is
given a specific time allotment each week within the instructor's
schedule, it is important to be on time for your lesson. Please
do not expect to receive a full lesson if you are tardy.
Students are allowed two makeup lessons
each semester for excused absences only. Please note that
this makeup policy applies only to private lessons. There are no
makeup lessons for ensembles or group classes. Excused absences
are those caused by illness, family emergency, or other situations in
which the instructor is notified 24 hours in advance of the lesson
time. In the event of inclement weather, lessons will not be made
up. To cancel a lesson, please contact the Community Music Center
Office (661-5234) as well as the specific instructor. Lessons
cancelled by an instructor will be rescheduled before the end of the
semester.
Registration & Tuition
There is one $10 registration fee due
per family per semester. Please note that in order to register
for Kindermusik®, the
registration fee PLUS the materials fee needs to be paid before the
inception of the class. The CMC also allows late entry into the
semester with permission of the instructor. Tuition for
late-entering students will be prorated based upon the beginning date
of lessons. The tuition can be
paid in one or two payments.
Please note that a $10 late fee will
be added to any late payments. In addition, if you choose
Payment Plan 2, please be aware that you will be committing to a
semester-long agreement.
Payment Plan 1: One
payment in full due on or before the beginning of lessons.
Payment Plan 2: Two
payments (in equal installments). First payment due on or before
the beginning of lessons. Second payment due by
mid-semester. Please call 661-5234 for more details. Please
note that you are obligated to make your second
payment on time even if no reminder or invoice is received.
If at least half of the tuition is not received on or before the
beginning of lessons, the student will not receive instruction until
payment is made.
All tuition and registration checks need to be made payable to Union
University and can be mailed to this address:
Community Music Center
1050 Union University Drive
Jackson, TN 38305-3697
Refunds
The Community Music Center has a no-refund policy
once musical instruction has begun. Students should not register
for study if there is the possibility that schedule changes will
interfere with regular weekly attendance. Once registered, the
student has contracted the teacher's time for the remainder of the
semester. Inability to find time to practice, changing one's
mind, teacher/student differences, or unexpected changes in the
student's schedule are not acceptable reasons for a withdrawal request.
Withdrawals & Credit
Vouchers
Students may withdraw and receive refunds or credit vouchers
prorated by the CMC office for the number of private lessons/classes
not
yet received ONLY in the event of prolonged illness or moving away from
the area. The student's instructor must be notified and a request
for withdrawal must be submitted to the director in writing explaining
the case for withdrawal. Refunds are prorated from the date the
office receives the letter.
Failure to attend lessons/classes or notify the teacher does not
constitute withdrawal from the program. In the event that a
credit voucher is issued, this voucher is only applicable for the
program in which the student was previously enrolled.
Practice
The student should come to each lesson with his/her previous
assignment well prepared. Parents should keep in mind that their
support is a key element to student success. Parents are
encouraged to help children by providing:
1. An instrument in good working order.
2. A quiet place in which to practice, free from distraction (e.g.
siblings and TV).
3. A schedule for consistent, daily time for practice with parental
supervision as needed.
4. Praise, encouragement, and positive support for the child's efforts
and achievements.
Materials
Instrument/materials fees are not included in the cost of
tuition. Students will be required to purchase music/materials
each semester according to the instructor's specification. The
instructor will either ask you to purchase the necessary materials at a
local music store or will provide the music for you. If you
receive materials from your instructor, please reimburse him/her
directly.
Recitals
Recital performance is an excellent opportunity for students to
demonstrate musical progress and to develop confidence in stage
presence and performance. Students are encouraged but not
required to participate in a recital at the end of the semester.
Unless otherwise noted, all recitals
are held in Hartley Recital Hall at Union.
