"The 'unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics' in uncovering the structure of the physical world (to use Eugene Wigner's pregnant phrase) is a hint of the presence of the Creator, given to us creatures who are made in the divine image."

Dr. Kyle Hathcox, went Home 7/25/2007 Ph.D., University of North Texas) late Chairman and University Professor of Physics; Additional Study: Oak Ridge Associated Universities;

Here's what Dr. David Dockery said about Dr. Hathcox:

Dr. Kyle Hathcox, our dear colleague, passed away ... this afternoon (25 July). Dr. Hathcox served this institution with distinction as University Professor, Chair of the Physics Department, and Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Since 1974, he has had a relationship with and impact upon Union University. We give thanks for his years of faithful service and for the lives of students and colleagues who were touched by his teaching and service through the years.

We give thanks for Dr. Hathcox's strong faith in Jesus Christ, and while we grieve his loss, we do so with the promise and hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Special Events

Are you interested in continuing education in physics, perhaps for a teaching certificate?  Click on image of Mr. Tesla and his light bulb for some announcements about upcoming events and offerings in Union University's Physics Department! Also, check out what's happening in the West Tennessee Regional Science Fair.

ADVENTURES IN PHYSICS '07 was a great success!  We had 16 Jackson-area middle school students learn that Physics is Phun!  One of the favorite demonstrations was our vacuum ping-pong ball cannon.; Click on the pic to see the Movie!!

The WORLD YEAR OF PHYSICS 2005 celebrated the 20th century's greatest scientist and promoted physics in the next century.  2005 marked the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein's papers explaining Brownian motion, special relativity, and the photoelectric effect.  Events during the year showcased how physics benefits society and improves our quality of life!  Click on the icon for more information on the World Year of Physics 2005!
