CNN political analyst Paul Begala speaks at Union Forum March 7. Begala lauds 'miracle of our democracy’ in Union Forum address

Despite political campaigns that are often characterized by mudslinging and rancor, living in a democracy is an “unearned blessing,” CNN political analyst Paul Begala said March 7 at Union University.

“Even when it’s all ugly and difficult and hateful and disappointing, I feel it’s my job sometimes to try to lift us all up and celebrate the miracle of our democracy,” Begala said.

Begala spoke in the Carl Grant Events Center as part of the 13th annual Union Forum luncheon lecture series, peppering his speech with wit and humor. A former strategist for President Bill Clinton, Begala addressed the Republican presidential primary and the upcoming general election, saying that while Republicans and Democrats have major differences of opinion on many issues, the best way to sort out those differences is through an election campaign. Scott Rasmussen of Rasmussen Reports speaks March 16 during the Union Forum luncheon. U.S. voters ahead of politicians in embracing change, Rasmussen says

A majority of Americans are frustrated by a U.S. political system that seems to ignore the voices and opinions of U.S. citizens, a prominent pollster said March 16 at Union University.

“People want Republicans to lose, and they want Democrats to lose,” said Scott Rasmussen, founder and president of Rasmussen Reports. “They want them both to lose at the same time, but haven’t figured out a way to make that happen.”

Rasmussen spoke in the Carl Grant Events Center as part of the 12th annual Union Forum luncheon lecture series. One of the nation’s premier sources for public opinion information, Rasmussen has been an independent pollster since 1994 and is a frequent guest on FOX News, CNBC, BBC and other major media outlets. Rich Lowry speaks at Union Forum. U.S. has been and will continue to be exceptional, Lowry says

The United States is locked in an ideological battle between limited government conservatism and European-style progressivism that will determine whether the country continues to be exceptional, National Review editor Rich Lowry said Sept. 29, 2010 at Union University.

“If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and its finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time or die by suicide,” Lowry said, quoting Abraham Lincoln. “It’s my profound belief that this country will resolve to live.”

Lowry, a syndicated columnist and a commentator for Fox News Channel, spoke in the Carl Grant Events Center as part of the 12th annual Union Forum luncheon lecture series. Lowry has written for such publications as The New York Times, Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Reader’s Digest and others. READ MORE
