Main Collection
Summar Library has made every attempt to build a solid collection which
serves our Union University community. The Main Collection contains more than
100,000 monographs that have a designation of Book Stacks in the online
catalog.
Juvenile
A collection of children’s literature for grades K-12 is provided in support
of education courses.
Reference
The library houses more than 9,000 reference materials located in the area
behind the Circulation Desk.
Curriculum
A collection of elementary and secondary school textbooks and related
instructional material is provided in support of teacher education courses.
Oversize
Oversize books are organized by LC subject order centrally located in the
library.
Lee Library
Union is privileged with the curatorship of the Lee Memorial Library.
The book collection owned by Dr. Robert G. Lee, a noted Southern Baptist
preacher from Memphis, Tennessee, is located in room F 55 of the Library. It may
be viewed from the main corridor or may be entered upon request. These books do
not circulate, but they may be used in the Library. They are designated in the
online catalog with the location of Lee Library.
Archive Collections
The University Archives and Special Collections consist of the official
records of the University and other collections of material that are held in
trust for historical research. These materials are available to all library
patrons for in house use and are housed in closed stacks in the library.
Requests for access to these materials should be made at the Circulation Desk.

Recreational Reading
The Recreational Reading contains more than 200 books from a variety of
genres and disciplines that offers an easy to browse carousel.
Periodicals
Periodicals are housed in a variety of formats, including bound volumes,
current paper issues, microform, and online. Summar Library holds more than 400
current subscriptions. In addition, Summar Library has more 1,000 titles of
older issues in microfiche and bound. Students also have access to more than
3,000 titles through online databases.
Media (video, CD, Audiocassettes, LPs)
The main media collection is closed stack containing more than 14,000 media
material including 4,000 videos (more than 500 DVDs) and 1600 Compact Discs.
Recordings of music CD are located in the closed stacks of the Media Center.
They are designated in the online catalog with a location of IMC. There
are more than 3,000 LP sound recording located in the Instruction Lab.
Newspapers
The Library subscribes to the following newspapers: The Commercial Appeal
(daily), The Jackson Sun (daily), The New York Times (Sunday),
The Tennessean (daily), USA Today (daily M-F), and The Wall Street
Journal (daily M F).
