Union University's School of Education is accredited
by NCATE and offers the Master of Arts in Education Degree (M.A.ED) with
a concentration for Library Information Specialist Licensure.
Conceptual Framework
The primary goal of the School Library Information
Specialist Program is to meet The Tennessee State Department of
Education standards to equip School Library Media Specialists with the
knowledge and skills needed to work with teachers and students in
organizing knowledge, accessing information, and administering effective
library media programs for grades PreK-12.
State standards and Information Power (the
national standards for school library media programs) are the framework
used in this curriculum.

Requirements for initial licensure:
- 53 hours (32 Professional Ed. core hrs. + 21
concentration hrs.)
- Praxis II Tests
- Student teaching
Requirements for additional licensure:
- 39 hours (12 Professional Ed. core hrs. + 27
concentration hrs.)
- Praxis II Test
- Practicum
