Where is the library located?

Can I use the telephone?
Library telephones are for staff use only. There are two public phones located
in D-Hall across from Union Station.
Is there a typewriter in the library?
A typewriter is available for public use. Ask the staff member on duty at the
Circulation Desk.
Where are the photocopiers?
Two student photocopiers can be found near the student workstations and the
Reference Desk.
How can I make a transparency?
To make a transparency please make a request at the Circulation Desk.
Transparencies are $0.30 per transparency.
How much do you charge for copies?
Photocopiers are available for use in the Library. The cost is $0.10 per page.
Change is available from the dollar bill changer or at the Circulation Desk.
Print requests sent from the computer workstations can be picked up in the
circulation area. There is no charge for these print copies for students.
However, there is a cost of $0.05 per page for guests.
Can I send/receive a fax from the library?
A fax machine is located at the circulation desk. It costs $0.25 per page to
send or receive a fax. The number to receive faxes is 731-661-5175.
Can I bring food or drink into the library?
Food and drink in closed containers are allowed to be brought into the library.
However, no food or drink is allowed near computer workstations. At all times
great care should be taken to prevent damage to library materials. Patrons are
responsible for throwing away any trash.
How can I reserve a study room?
You can reserve a study room by making a request via email at
reference@uu.edu,
by phone at (731) 661-5070, or in person at the Circulation Desk.
Do you have a paper cutter?
A paper cutter is located on a table between the Juvenile Collection and
computer workstations.
How do I log onto the computer?
Students can access the computer workstation by using their student username.

What time do you close on Wednesdays?
Summar Library does not close at any time before 12:30 a.m. unless for a
designated presidential chapel. Summar Library is open all evening on
Wednesdays.
Are you open during chapel?
All offices are closed for certain chapels requested by the President’s Office.
Are you open during Spring Break?
The Library is open during Spring Break except for the official school holiday
weekend.
How many books can I have at once?
Students can have 20 books out on loan at a time.

How can I renew my books?
You can renew your books online, by phone or in person. Please access
your
account to renew online. You can call (731) 661-5070 to renew by phone.
If you renew in person, you do not need to have the materials with you.
How can I check out a reserve?
To view an item on reserve please make a request at the Circulation Desk. You
will need your Union Dawg tag along with the professor’s name and the title of
the item you want to check out.
How do I search for books?
You can search for Summar Library materials by accessing Summar Library’s Online
Catalog (OPAC).
How do I find the book in the library?
You must first look at the location of the book. If the book is in the Book
Stacks you will find the book in the rear of the library. You must then look at
the Call Number of the book. Summar Library catalogs books using the Library of
Congress Classification System. The first letter(s) will help you find the
general area. The beginning of the Book Stacks shelves start at the right and
move to the left. There are call number ranges on the end of the rows to guide
you.
If the book I am looking for is not on the shelf what should I do?
First double-check to make sure you are in the correct location site (ie
Reference, Book Stacks, Oversize). Then make sure you are looking at the correct
call number area. If you are still unable to locate the book, please see the
staff member at the circulation desk.
How do I find a journal?
Use Summar Library’s Online Catalog (OPAC) to determine if we carry a specific
title. Newer issues (up to 1 year old) will be in the Current Periodicals
section. Older issues are shelved alphabetically by title in the Bound
Periodicals section.
Where are your DVDs?
The media collection is closed stack located in the library office area. Please
ask at the Circulation Desk if you want to check out videos, CDs or
audiocassettes.
Do you have a list of DVDs?
You can access
a list of Feature Films on DVD or locate a specific title
using the online catalog (OPAC).
How can I get books or articles from the library if I live out of town and
take classes online?
You can get any materials from the library by contacting
Paul Sorrell at psorrell@uu.edu. Books or copies of articles can be mailed to
you. If you need a copy of an ERIC document it will be sent to you if it is in
our files.
How do I request materials through InterLibrary Loan?
You can fill out ILL
requests at https://www.uu.edu/library/ill/. There is no cost to
you for InterLibrary Loan. Books and articles will be mailed to you if you are
not local to Jackson. Articles are yours to keep, books should be returned to
the Jackson campus library.
Can I renew ILL books?
If you need to keep ILL books past the due date,
contact Paul Sorrell (psorrell@uu.edu). Each lending library has different
policies about renewing ILL materials and Paul can tell you if it can be
renewed.
