Reference and Research Services
Summar Library has a knowledgeable, service-oriented staff available whenever the
library is open. Reference librarians conduct instruction sessions for entire classes
across the disciplines, and also provide research assistance for individual students
at all levels of study.
The Research Assistance Center (RAC), which opened in August 2006, is located in
Summar Library near the computer work stations. It is designed to make in-depth,
one-on-one research assistance easily available to students and faculty. We are open
35 hours per week during the fall and spring terms,
including 3 evenings a week, and 20 hours during the winter and summer terms.
Librarians are available to make appointments outside of the scheduled RAC
hours-just send a request to reference@uu.edu.
If you are in the library and need assistance when the RAC is closed, please come to
the circulation desk, where our well-trained staff can assist you with basic questions
or refer you to one of our reference librarians.
Research questions can be sent to reference@uu.edu, or you can contact the librarian
on duty at 731.661.6571. Questions and requests may also be sent directly to
Melissa Moore (mmoore@uu.edu or 661.5408);
Jenny Lowery (jlowery@uu.edu or 661.5058); or
Jeannie Byrd (jbyrd@uu.edu or 661.5339).
Subject Guides
Summar Library faculty members have developed a number of specialized subject
guides to assist you with your research. These guides consist of recommendations
for databases, journals, websites and other resources available from Summar Library.
Check the complete list to find out if a
subject guide is available for your topic.
Interlibrary Loan
Summar Library provides interlibrary loan services free of charge to all students.
If a book or article is not available in the Summar Library or through our databases,
you may request that we borrow the item from another library by filling out the
appropriate form.
If you have any questions about library services, please call the circulation desk
at 661-5070 or contact one of the librarians listed above for research assistance.
