Scouting Report:
Alan is a natural for the game of baseball with good speed, excellent eye-hand coordination and a quick bat. At the plate Alan combines textbook technique with a good sense of the strike zone to maintain a high on-base percentage. He is good contact hitter with the ability to hit to all fields. His excellent bat control and good speed make him a prototypical number two hitter. Only weakness at plate is a tendency to get out in front of some pitches. Power numbers should improve as he puts on weight and develops physically. Defensively, Alan's greatest strengths are his soft hands and fluid movements. He needs to work on strengthening his throwing arm. Alan also exhibits intangible qualities that elevate his game. He is an intelligent player who can maintain composure and concentration under stress. In addition, he exhibits all the traits of a true team player. These qualities combined with his excellent offensive and defensive skills indicate a bright future for this young second baseman.

Career Highlights: During the summer of '98 Alan rebounded from an injury plagued high school season to help his team win the state CABA tournament. As the team's second baseman and number two hitter he batted .314 with an OBP of .510. His progress was hindered by a broken index finger on the throwing hand when he was hit by a pitch early in the '98 season. He was limited to 57 plate appearences and finished the year with a .216 batting average but maintained high OBP of .452. In '97 Alan split time between the A and B squad with most of his 98 plate appearances coming as DH for the varsity. He finished the season hitting .315 with an OBP of .450. During the summer and fall he played with the North Side instructional team learning the 2B position. In '96 Alan batted .307 and had an OBP of .470 with the B squad. At the conclusion of the season he joined the Jackson Fire traveling team. In 41 games with the Fire he batted .402 with 26 RBIs. Alan played in the Dixie Youth organization for five years making the all-stars in '92, '94, and '95. In '94 he helped his team to an undefeated 18-0 season by batting .714 with 10 HRs and 45 RBIs. That year his all-star team finished second in the state. The next year Alan batted .480 with 20 RBIs in the regular season. He then went on to hit .491 with 16 RBIs to help his all-star team win the state 13 year-old tournament and finish second in the world series.
