SECTION III. CONTEXTUAL INFORMATION

      Union University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Union's Teacher Education Program is NCATE-accredited and offers licensure programs in twenty-nine endorsement areas. Degrees offered include Bachelor's, Master of Arts in Education (licensure or non-licensure), Master of Education (non-licensure), and Educational Specialist (licensure in Professional Administrator or non-licensure). All programs are offered on the Jackson, TN campus; the M.Ed. and Ed.S. programs are offered on the Germantown, TN campus. Of the 13 appointed full-time faculty in professional education, 10 (77%) have the doctorate.
      Minimum scores on the Praxis II are required for admission to student teaching or for substitution of experience for student teaching. Approximately 93% of candidates pass the Praxis II on the first attempt. Initial licensure is required for admission to the M.Ed. and Ed.S. programs.
      Of the 72 student teachers in the report year, 85% secured teaching positions in their area of endorsement the following school year, 3% were teaching outside their endorsement area, 8% were attending graduate school, and 4% were employed outside teaching. The average number of years taught by program completers from 4 years ago is 3.37 years.
