Students will learn needed information to include when hosting a conference, region, or national tournament at the college level. In addition, students will research and choose the best ways to publish the information for the use of other sports information directors, media personnel, and fans. Students will also learn technology skills that will help them to create a basic website using FrontPage and including other programs such as Word and Excel. |

You’re
the Sports Information Director at a college or university and
you’ve just been informed that your school is the host for a
post-season tournament. Do you know what is required or expected of
you and your office? This learning web will help you prepare,
setup, and publish information that is beneficial for other sports
information directors, media personnel, and fans. |

ACTIVITY
INSTRUCTIONS: 1. In an excel document, organize a list of five media for the tournament with column headings of Media Name, Phone Number, Fax Number, and Email. Select five that have a phone, fax, and email listed. A list of media names are provided here for your access. Once the list is completed, sort the list alphabetically by Media Name. (Use Arial font, 10 point) (Synthesis) 2. Analyze the postseason tournament websites listed below and find these common items on each website (directions and/or facility info, schedules and brackets, results/stats, and tournament/post-season honors) plus two special features (example: participating team information, live stats, live TV, tournament photos, video, programs, t-shirts, contact information, history, fan information. (Analysis) 3. Of your findings, choose the way you feel best presented each of these items. Then record your choice and and a brief explanation of the reason for your choice in a Word document table (using this example Word table). If you feel that none of the three websites presented an item well, you may construct a new way of presentation and explain why this way is better. (Application, Synthesis) 4. Using Microsoft FrontPage, create and design a simple webpage that includes all six items that you have pulled from the researched websites. Use photos, hyperlinks, and text/page formatting to present all necessary information in the simplest, but most informative, manner for other sports information directors, media personnel, and fans. (Synthesis) 5. Once the assignments are completed, the students will present their project to the class, explaining the reasons for their choices 6. After the completion of the entire project, the student will write brief reflection statements on (1) the quality of how the student believed the objectives were taught, (2) what did the student learn during the project, (3) what other websites would be beneficial for a person in sports management/marketing to create. |
