Teacher Licensure for English
The need for well-qualified teachers is at an all-time high across the U.S. Even more pressing is the need for teachers with the passion and intelligence to engage the broad range of their students' capacities: mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Students choosing the teacher licensure track will not only cultivate their own love of literature and writing but also learn to meaningfully engage other minds and pass on the gift of learning. Teacher licensure students will complete all the requirements of traditional English majors as well as a program in professional pedagogy through Union's highly regarded College of Education. Education courses will provide students with a solid theoretical and practical grounding in the best educational practices. The year-long student internship will place seniors under the mentorship of an outstanding local English teacher and provide them with real-world experience in the English classroom. By the end of the program the Union teacher licensure student will be trained not only to think critically and write effectively, but also to engage meaningfully with young minds in a classroom setting.
