Criteria for Awarding the Scholarship
A student recipient must have junior or senior classification, be a mathematics or computer science major or minor, and have junior or senior standing in the major/minor for which the award is made during the term(s) the scholarship is received. The meaning of junior or senior standing in the major shall be as determined by the scholarship committee.
A student recipient must have completed at least one year of study (two full-length semesters) at Union University.
A student may specify on his/her application for the scholarship the term(s) for which he/she is applying for the scholarship, to include Fall, Spring, or any Summer term. The student must be enrolled in the semesters requested for the full scholarship to be awarded.
A student recipient must have a GPA of 3.00 or higher in the major/minor for which the award is made, and 2.75 or higher overall, through the term(s) immediately preceding the receipt of the scholarship.
Applications shall be received in the spring semester (application process and deadlines to be determined by the scholarship committee) for awarding of scholarship(s) during the following academic year (fall through summer).
Before the fund grows to the point where multiple scholarships can be granted, priority for awarding scholarships shall be established as follows (for academic years in which the students receive the scholarships):
Odd-year fall through even-year summer: a. MAT major, b. CSC major, c. MAT minor, d. CSC minor
Even-year fall through odd-year summer: a. CSC major, b. MAT major, c. CSC minor, d. MAT minor
After the fund grows to the point where multiple scholarships can be granted, scholarships shall be granted to students in both disciplines in an equitable manner as determined by the scholarship committee and the department(s) of mathematics and computer science.
When determining the recipient(s) of the scholarship from among the applicants, the committee shall consider the applicants' GPA/academic success, financial need, leadership or leadership potential in KME, ACM, or other departmental activities, and character.
