Langley, Pulliam, and Young Graduate

Posted May 24, 2016

This past Saturday, the Department said farewell to three of our oustanding graduates. We have enjoyed having them in our department the past 3-4 years and look forward to these three students doing great things in the future. Here is a short look at our graduates, their accomplishments, and future plans.

The Department chose Daniel Langley, of Bethpage, TN, as our Outstanding Political Science Major. He had a GPA around 3.9 and wrote the best senior thesis this fall. During his time at Union, Daniel was considered the best prepper on the debate team, was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society, and a Senator and member of Senior Council for Union's Student Government Association.

As someone interested in campaigns, he has worked on multiple campaigns during his time at Union. Two summers ago, he worked for Rep. Joshua Evans' campaign for the State Senate and last summer he worked for the David Fox for Nashville Mayor campaign. In this latter campaign, he worked for Stampede consulting which focuses on mobilizing voters. Using data from that campaign, he wrote his senior thesis on the impact of timing of canvassing on voter turnout. Due to his past success and senior thesis, Stampedge Consulting asked him to work this past January in Iowa to assist voter mobilization for Carly Fiorina's campaign. Now, Daniel will begin working for Stampede this summer working on Rep. Bruce Poliquin's (R-ME) reelection campaign.

Another great graduate is Allison Pulliam of Granger, IN. She was a double major with Political Science and Journalism and a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Society. The Department gave her the Tennessee Political Science Association's John Burgess Award for meritorious work in political science. During her time at Union, she was ranked as one of America's top debators, an anchor for Jackson 24/7 News, and the founder of Union's Feminist Organization.

A ver bright, well-rounded young woman, many law schools were interested in her joining their law school. She was accepted into national law schools like the University of Virigina and was offered scholarships to attend Emory, William & Mary, the University of Tennessee, Indiana University, and Baylor. Allison is deferring admission to law school for a year and then will attend IU's law school in the fall of 2017.

Our final graduate is Christina Young of Jackson, TN. Christina compressed her time at Union into three years but remained very active. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority, Vice President of the Panhellenic Council, a participant at the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature, and a member of Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society, and Union's Pre-Law Society. This past Spring, Christina worked as an intern at the Tennessee State Legislature working for for Rep. Kelly Keisling and Rep. Curtis Halford. Even though, she is interested in politics, she will begin work at CVS but we will not be surprised if she attempts to find a job in politics, maybe even as an elected official.
