JACKSON, Tenn. — March 3, 2015 — Authors Christine Bailey and Patricia Hamilton will give readings at Union University on March 4.
The readings are part of the schedule of events for Union’s 23rd annual Creative Writing Workshop for West Tennessee high school students.
Bailey teaches creative writing and written composition at Union University. Prior to teaching, Bailey worked as a journalist, a marketing/public relations writer and an editor. Her debut novel, “Girl in the Middle,” was published in 2013, and her second novel, “Walking Under Water,” is due for release in September, 2015. Both young adult novels address the hierarchical nature of high school and the sensitive issue of bullying.
Hamilton is a professor of English at Union University. Her work has appeared in “Iodine Poetry Journal,” “The Sow’s Ear Poetry Review,” “Connecticut River Review,” “Cider Press Review” and “The Southern Poetry Anthology” among other journals. She has received two Pushcart nominations and was a finalist for the Rash Poetry Award in 2013 and 2014. Her first volume of poems, “The Distance to Nightfall,” was published by Main Street Rag in 2014.
The readings will begin at 1 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium, located in the Barefoot Student Union building. A book signing will follow.
The reading is free and open to the public.
