Pharmacy Practice

Pharmacy Practice Students in the Pharm.D. program at Union University have the opportunity to learn from faculty in the classroom and laboratories as well as in a variety of practice specialty settings on clinical rotations. Students also have the opportunity to complete clinical research alongside faculty during their time at Union University.

Practice Specialties of Faculty

Ambulatory Care

At the Jackson Clinic North and Physicians Tower locations, both Drs. Jennifer Byrd and Bethany Murphy collaborate with primary and specialty physicians to provide education and comprehensive medication management of chronic disease states including diabetes, heart failure, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.

Dr. Ashley Pugh practices with Kroger Pharmacy in the Jackson area providing clinical services to patients through medication therapy management, immunizations, health screenings, and diabetes education. She works with patients' prescribers to ensure patients are on optimal therapy for common chronic disease states.

Dr. Taylor Mathis practices at the University of Tennessee Family Medicine Center assisting physicians, medical residents, and medical students with chronic disease state and medication therapy management.

Community Practice

Dr. Jeff Snow practices at Duncan's pharmacy where he serves patients through clinical services such as point-of-care testing, immunizations, health screenings, wellness classes, and medication therapy management.

Critical Care

Drs. Christopher Buckley, Austin Camp, and Jodi Taylor practice in critical care at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). The SICU serves a wide variety of critically-ill patients, from medical and post-operative to trauma. Clinical services provided by Drs. Buckley, Camp, and Taylor include daily rounding with physicians, emergency response to code situations with the medical team, antimicrobial stewardship, and other patient care activities.

Medication Safety

Dr. Andrew Martin practices at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital focusing on medication safety. He specializes in capturing, tracking, assessing, and monitoring safety issues throughout the medication use system. Dr. Martin assesses multiple data sources on a daily basis to identify potential system weaknesses and collaborates with other health care professionals to improve the medication use system and prevent patient harm. The goal of his practice is to cultivate organizational growth through exploration of medication and patient safety issues.

Oncology

Dr. Zachery Halford is a clinical oncology pharmacist assigned to assist and educate cancer patients at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and Kirkland Cancer Center. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, midlevel practitioners, and other health care providers, Dr. Halford helps ensure optimal pharmacotherapy and supportive care for patients with various hematologic, immunologic and oncologic disorders.
